VERSION 1.0 · APRIL 2026

Legal · Privacy · Refund · Press

All four in one document because honesty fits on one page. We'd rather you read this than skip a wall of legalese spread across five.

Privacy.

Anonymous by default. You can play all 11 opening dilemmas, see the reveal, see your distance, and share — without giving us anything. No email, no name, no account.

What we keep when you play anonymously: a per-dilemma tally for your country (e.g., "1 vote for Knowledge on dilemma 7 in Nigeria today"). We never store the sequence of your answers. We never store anything that could identify you back. IPs are hashed for rate-limiting and discarded daily.

What changes when you sign in: we store your email + your archetype trajectory + which countries you've played for. We do this so your streak survives a device switch and so you can claim your prior anonymous contributions. We never sell, share, or trade this data. Period.

What we never do: sell data to advertisers · run third-party trackers · profile you for ads · share your trajectory with anyone (it's private to you by default) · use your votes outside the per-country aggregate canon.

Refund terms.

Credits: if you bought a credit pack and haven't spent any of it, full refund within 14 days, no questions asked. After 14 days, unspent credits stay in your account for 24 months. After 24 months, unspent credits convert to a donation to Doctors Without Borders (audited annually) per EU VAT rules on deferred revenue.

Prints: shipped via Gelato. Damaged or wrong-print arrivals are replaced free within 30 days. Customised prints (your specific archetype card, your trajectory) are non-refundable once printed unless damaged in transit.

How to refund: email hello@playdistance.com with your order ID. We action within 3 business days.

Press.

Journalists, researchers, and policy desks: every Distance number is cite-ready by design. Each cell on the Terminal has a timestamp + methodology link + hash. The transparency page shows how each city's canon was decided that day.

For interviews, embargoed access, or methodology questions: press@playdistance.com. We respond within 24h on weekdays.

Press kit: logos, screenshots, and citation guidelines available on request.

Cookies.

One cookie: dist_from, used for share-link attribution (so we know that you arrived from a friend's share card). 30-day expiry. Strictly first-party. No tracking pixels, no third-party fingerprinting, no ad cookies.

If you sign in, we add a session cookie (also first-party, signed). Both can be cleared from any browser settings panel.

Data deletion.

Want your data gone? Email hello@playdistance.com from your account email. We action within 30 days under GDPR Article 17 / equivalent. Your contributions stay in the canon (anonymously, since they were never linked to you in the aggregate); your personal trajectory and email are deleted.

Disputes.

If we remove or hide content of yours, you have a right to appeal. Appeals go to a different admin than the one who made the original decision. 72-hour SLA. Outcomes are logged on the public transparency page for the relevant city.

Pattern matters: admins with high appeal-overturn rates trigger internal review. We hold ourselves to the same scrutiny we ask of users.
